An ancient philosopher best remembered as carrying a lamp in the day while claiming to be looking for an honest man.<\/p>\n

He enjoyed mocking \u00a0Alexander the Great<\/a>, sabotaging the lectures of \u00a0Socrates<\/a>, and defacing currency (his father had been a coin minter). He “made it his life’s goal to challenge established customs and values.”<\/p>\n

At one point he was captured by pirates and sold into slavery.
\nHis philosophy later morphed, through his students, into\u00a0\u00a0Stoicism<\/a>.<\/p>\n

None of his writing survives.<\/p>\n
